Twenty years. One operator. One license. One contract per job.
Principle Building Group is one operator. The projects were run by him. The mistakes were paid for by him. The reputation is his to lose — which is why he still shows up on every jobsite.
What PBG is.
Principle Building Group Inc. is a licensed general contractor headquartered in Los Angeles County, CSLB #984586. Owner-operated since founding, PBG has built and remodeled residences across the LA basin for twenty years — custom homes, whole-home remodels, ADUs, roofing, and integrated solar-and-battery systems.
We're small on purpose.
The person quoting your project is the person running your project is the person whose name is on the contract. There's no dispatcher between you and the operator.
The trade you can't fake.
You cannot short-cut twenty years of running crews in Los Angeles.
Not with software. Not with subs. Not with charm.
Every neighborhood in this city has a different set of jurisdictional quirks. Coastal Commission where the lot faces the water. Hillside grading where the slope crosses fifteen percent. LADBS residential plan check on a flat lot in Encino runs one way; the same set of drawings in Beverly Hills runs another. The plumbing inspector in one district reads the code one way; three miles over, they read it another way.
You learn that by getting corrections.
Over time, you stop getting them.
We've watched Title 24 tighten across three code cycles. We've watched NEM go from 1.0 to 3.0 and change the entire economics of residential solar. We've watched material prices, labor availability, and permit timelines swing wide enough to bankrupt contractors who couldn't hold a schedule through it.
We're still here.
That's what twenty years buys you:a builder who's been priced-in through market cycles you haven't seen yet.
How PBG runs a project.
There are five things we do differently from most GCs in LA.
We plan the trades on paper before we plan the schedule on site.
Structural, MEP, envelope, energy — sequenced on the drawings before the first permit gets pulled. Most contractors sequence trades reactively. We sequence them upstream, so the framing, the electrical rough-in, the solar mounting, and the Title 24 model are one conversation, not four.
We hold the permit process ourselves.
LADBS is not a task we hand to your architect and hope for the best. We manage plan check, corrections, and inspections start to finish. You get one point of contact for the permit process. That point of contact is us.
We build the energy stack into the envelope.
Roof, panel, solar mounting, battery, EV charging load, heat pump load — planned as one system on the drawings, executed as one system on site. Ninety percent of solar retrofits in LA fight the roof they were mounted on.
Ours don't.
We tell you before it costs you.
Change orders. Scope drift. Schedule slip. All of it gets flagged early. If the number changes, we tell you before the trade starts the work — not at closeout.
We stay on the job until certificate of occupancy — and past it.
Punch list. Close-out. Then the call you make at year three when a hinge starts creaking.
We answer.
The envelope and the energy stack — as one system.
Most general contractors build the envelope and let a specialty contractor bolt on the solar six months later. It works. Barely.
The buildings tell on themselves, though. Penetrations that weren't planned. Panels that ended up in the shade because the tree wasn't accounted for at framing. Main service panels that need to be swapped out three years in because nobody sized them for the future load.
PBG builds the envelope and the energy stack under one contract.
That means:
- Roof structure engineered for the array from day one.No post-hoc retrofits. No leaks four years later because the mounting brackets pierced underlayment designed for a different job.
- Main service panel sized for full electrification.Heat pump, induction range, EV charging, battery backup — the panel is future-proofed at rough-in, not upgraded a decade later during a remodel that costs a multiple of what the rough-in would have.
- Title 24 modeled and NEM 3.0 designed at the outset. The energy model informs the envelope. The interconnection strategy informs the panel size. All decided together, at the drawing table, before anyone breaks ground.
- One warranty conversation, one operator to call. When the roof, the array, and the battery are all under the same builder, there's no "call the other guy" when something needs attention.
Twenty years of watching contractors do this the other way is why PBG does it this way.
Who's actually running the job.
The founder is the owner-operator of Principle Building Group Inc.
Twenty years on residential and light commercial jobsites across Los Angeles. Framing crews to Title 24 revisions. Coastal permits to NEM 3.0 interconnection meetings. Enough LADBS plan-check cycles to know which desk to walk to when a correction doesn't make sense.
He didn't get here on a straight line.
Twenty years in this trade, in this city, means market cycles you had to hold a company through when the phones stopped ringing. It means jobs that went sideways and had to be brought back. It means clients whose lives shifted mid-project and needed the plan to shift with them.
The people who last in this work aren't the ones who got lucky. They're the ones who got tempered by the cycles and kept showing up.
Every project PBG builds has his name on the contract and his hands on the schedule.
When you call PBG, you're calling him.
